Wicked heat comes to Arkansas in the summertime, and our air conditioning becomes our life line. If your A/C conks out during peak season, it could leak water somewhere in your house which you will be cleaning up while perspiring profusely. Here are a few things you can do routinely to keep things cool at your house.
- During peak load times (June through August), change your A/C system’s filter monthly. Never mind what the manufacturer recommends. The filter gets dirty and particles accumulate on the evaporator coil. Next thing you know, they’re in the air conditioning drain system.
- Flush that drain twice a year. Run a pipe or tube into the drain line and use the pump you use on the lawn to spray warm water through the line and force out any build-up.
- Put a condensate tablet in your evaporator coil drain pan every month. These contain a harmless chemical that removes sludge from your drain pan. Alternatively, you could put a mix of bleach and water in your drain pan.
- Make sure your drain flows away from the air conditioning system. Sometimes it can get knocked or nudged, reversing the direction of the flow.
Some of this stuff sounds kind of tricky, doesn’t it? It can be, and your safest bet would be to contact Paschal Heat, Air & Geothermal for routine service on your A/C system. We will go the extra mile to ensure the levels of refrigerant are adequate and check out your unit for any other potential problems.
