Spring Into Action and Prepare Your HVAC for Warmer Weather

Warmer Weather

Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow, so it is predicted that we will have an early spring. So while it may only be February, it may be time to start preparing. With spring on the way, one of the things you should start thinking about is your home heating systems or HVAC unit. It is always wise to prepare your unit before hot temperatures hit, ensuring it is ready to withstand the heat and cool your home. Here are three things you should do to prepare your HVAC unit for warmer temperatures.

Replace the Filters

Depending on the type of filters you have, you should clean or replace them every one to two months. Your HVAC unit pulls outside air into the appliance, where it is then heated or cooled and blown into your home. This air is pulled through an air filter, to help remove impurities, such as dirt, dust and dander. Over time, the filter can become full. If it isn’t cleaned or replaced, you unit has to work harder to pull air in, which can cause parts to wear out faster and uses more energy. Replacing the filters helps prevent this problem.

Clear Debris From Around the HVAC Unit

During the winter months, debris can build up around the unit. Grass and shrubs that haven’t been trimmed back due to the cold weather can block the flow of air into the unit. Trimming back excess growth around the home heating systems or HVAC unit can prevent this problem and help air flow into the unit as it should.

Schedule a Yearly Maintenance Inspection

The last thing you can do for your HVAC unit is to schedule a yearly maintenance inspection. A professional can inspect your unit, looking for signs that parts are wearing or need to be replaced. They can also clean parts that you can’t reach and oil and lubricate parts. This helps to extend the lifespan of the unit and prevents your unit from unexpectedly breaking down on you during the hottest time of the year.

Take the time to maintain your HVAC unit before hot temperatures hit. This will help ensure your unit is running efficiently and effectively during the hottest months of the year. Paschal Heat, Air and Geothermal can assist you with your HVAC needs in the great Arkansas area. Give us a call today to schedule a yearly maintenance inspection.
