How A Zoning System Delivers Custom Comfort From One Room To The Next And One Season To Another

A zoning system can be an effective solution to indoor comfort problems, all while helping you reduce your heating and cooling costs. In all seasons and in all weather conditions, zoning systems help put an end to uneven levels of heating and cooling in different rooms of your home and let you adjust the indoor climate based on room occupancy.

The basic principle behind these systems is simple: create two or more zones in your home, each of which is controlled by a separate thermostat. This allows you to alter the temperature in one zone without running the heating and cooling in another.

In a simple system, you can create a zone for the upstairs level of your house and another for the downstairs. This is common practice because hot air naturally rises, which can make the upper floor of your home too hot and stuffy in the summer and leave your downstairs area too cool in the winter. Without separate zones, you will have to heat or cool your entire house just to adjust the temperature in a specific area, which leaves other areas uncomfortable and forces you to use more energy than necessary.

Even if you have a single-story home, you can still benefit from a zoning system. In ranch-style houses with broad, sprawling floor plans, certain rooms are often too hot or too cold because conditioned air has to travel further to reach them. You can create zones for these trouble spots, allowing you to quickly and easily adjust the temperature without paying to heat or cool the entire house when you don’t need to. Also, if you tend to occupy certain rooms more than others, you can create a special zone solely for those areas.

At Paschal Heating, Air & Geothermal, we strive to help homeowners save money while increasing comfort. If you have questions about the benefits of zoning systems, or if you’re interested in creating two or more separate zones in your home, please contact us and we’ll happily help you.

Our goal is to help educate our customers about energy and home comfort issues (specific to HVAC systems).  For more information about zoning systems and other HVAC topics, download our free Home Comfort Resource guide.
