Is your air conditioner struggling to cool your home? According to Energy Star – a U.S Environmental Protection Agency voluntary program, most modern HVAC systems or air conditioners are built to last an average of 15 years, completely dependent on make & model, as well as your climate, how often you run the system, and how often your air conditioner is maintained.

Your air conditioner is something most of us take for granted, and never really give any consideration to until it breaks down & leaves us vulnerable to the elements. When this happens, you’ll rush to find an HVAC company to come to your home, and hope they provide a quick & easy fix. However, sometimes these “quick & easy fixes” can’t actually be completed easily, quickly, or even cheaply.

When this happens, you have a pretty big decision to make: repair or replace your existing air conditioner system? How can you know what the best decision is for you, your home, & your wallet?

COVID-19 And Indoor Air Quality

While our communities continue to make sense of the threat of COVID-19, we realize you likely have a few questions related to your HVAC system. Namely, does your indoor air quality system help protect you and your family from the coronavirus?

To be honest, it’s unknown at this time. That’s because these systems have never been tested against this new virus. When you hear that whole-home air purification systems can reduce indoor air particulates, odors and pollutants like pollen, pet dander, bacteria, and mold by up to 99%, this is based on extensive scientific testing of previously known things. Until testing shows similar results with COVID-19, we recommend against homeowners assuming an indoor air purification system will protect you from anything related to the coronavirus.

Saying that, manufacturers of these systems are confident testing will show their products reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19. Many hospitals install air purifications systems based on this trust that they work against anything that comes their way. However, we wanted to be as honest and upfront with you as possible. Until those tests show a direct reduction of COVID-19 risk, be careful with anyone telling you otherwise.

Here’s what we do know about air purification systems. They provide you and your family the cleanest air possible to breathe inside your home. Here at Paschal, we offer four different varieties of indoor air quality systems:

  • Whole House Filtration Systems – These systems are installed directly into your air conditioning system, so they filter the air before it even enters your home

  • Energy Recovery Ventilators – These systems assist in fresh air circulating throughout your home
  • Ultraviolet Air Cleaners – These systems specialize in cleaning the air in your ducts to stop the growth of bacteria and mold
