A Homeowner's A/C System Checklist for Summer

With the approach of warmer weather, you’re going to want to take the opportunity to give your A/C system some routine maintenance. Spring cleaning for your A/C

Before you turn your air conditioning system on for the first time you want to make sure that your system won’t be adding dust and other debris to your home, so spring is a great time to change the filters in your HVAC system. This will make sure that your unit works efficiently with unrestricted air flow providing you and your family with cool air all summer long.

You also want to take a garden hose with the nozzle set to “fine spray” and clean the outside portion of your air conditioner unit. By rinsing it from top to bottom, you can get rid of any dust and debris inside the unit that may have built up over the winter season.

Take a survey of your system

It’s not uncommon for the inside components of your air conditioner to need some maintenance from time to time.  This will include working with a variety of areas within your air conditioner including:

• Checking the seals of your air ducts
• Drain pipe cleaning
• Condenser coils and evaporator cleaning
• Blower component cleaning
• Checking all electrical connections and controls
• Checking refrigerant levels

By taking a little extra time and performing routine maintenance, you can extend the life of your air conditioner and it’s efficiency. In addition, this is a great way to identify any underlying issues you might have with your air conditioner and potentially prevent more costly, and extensive repairs in the future.
