Unfortunately, there are too many companies out there that don’t have your best interest at heart.  They are more interested in getting in and out of your home as quickly and as cheaply as possible. While this may get the job done in the short term, it ends up costing you a lot more money in the long run.  Doing your research on a local HVAC repair company may be the difference that saves you a lot of time, money and frustration in the future. Let’s explore a few things to look for when it’s time to call your local heating and air company.

Cheaper Rarely Means Better

While it may sound like a good deal at the time, going with the cheapest AC company often results in being the most expensive option. An HVAC system is definitely not the type of home improvement project you want to ‘cut corners’ with. A good system should run for 10 to 15 years, if installed properly. Google and Facebook are just a few platforms  you can utilize to research a reliable and reputable HVAC company. Most reviews are honest, transparent, and give insight into the customer service that is provided by the HVAC company you are interested in hiring. (you might be surprised by the answer, don’t assume). How do they make you feel?  Comfortable and at ease?  Or, like something just isn’t right?  Do you feel like they have your best interest at heart?  Does this company have repeat business in the area? Read their reviews and ask for references; talk to previous customers who have been in your shoes.

Be Cautious of Bids Done Over the Phone

Because no two ac change-outs are the same, be wary of bids given over the phone. There are countless factors that contribute to a technician’s price estimate. Many factors that are needed for an accurate price quote cannot be assessed over the phone. A trusted technician will need to inspect your ac system and home to gather the necessary details to make the most accurate estimate.  Would you have surgery without performing an x-ray or MRI first?  Would you trust the surgeon telling you to do so? Therefore, wouldn’t you take the same approach when dealing with your home’s ac system?

Get It in Writing

Speaking of bids and estimates, it is crucial that you obtain all estimates and bids in writing. Don’t hesitate to ask your technician specific reasons as to where estimates come from and why a particular service is needed. It is YOUR money that YOU are paying THEM, after all! Should you have any questions or should issues arise in the future, you can quickly recall the history of your unit and the work/services performed.
